Why Massage and Bodywork?
The moving parts of the body (the joints), were created to move through a range of motion freely and completely. When this range of motion is compromised there is a problem. This can be expressed as the horse being “off” or just “not right”.
As a prey animal, the horse will always attempt to appear strong. If the horse shows signs of pain or weakness it will be the first one noticed by the predator. All horses will guard against and compensate for any pain or weakness. That is why it is so difficult to evaluate the cause of lameness in a horse.
The principle technique I use, The Masterson Method™, is a unique method of equine bodywork that allows the release of accumulated structural and muscular stress in the horse’s body. These include areas that most affect performance such as the poll, neck/shoulder/withers, and sacro/lumbar area. It is this accumulated stress that most affects mobility, comfort, attitude, training and performance.
How is Bodywork Customized?
The horse will show certain neurological responses to touch as it releases tension in the body. By following these responses the horse participates in the process by showing me where tension has accumulated, precisely how much pressure is needed to release it, and when it has been released. When this tension is released you will see improvement in mobility, comfort, performance and attitude.
By listening to the horse I am able to create an individualized program for each of my clients that is built around their special needs. All breeds and disciplines can benefit from bodywork, as a natural way to maintain, or restore range of motion, & balance.

PLEASE NOTE: Equine massage and bodywork does not replace proper veterinary care; but serves as a compliment to overall equine health, through muscle relaxation and increased range of motion. If in doubt about the physical condition of your horse, please consult your veterinarian.
